Job Description

About St Jude’s Care

St Jude’s Care is a family‑run care provider delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care across the South West of England. We provide live‑in care, domiciliary care, and supported living, supporting people to live safely, independently and with dignity in their own homes.

We pride ourselves on combining professional standards with a genuine personal touch. Every branch of St Jude’s Care is rated Good by the CQC, reflecting our commitment to safe, compassionate and reliable care.

As a family‑run organisation, we value strong relationships with the people we support and with our staff. Our carers are at the heart of what we do, and we work hard to ensure they feel supported, respected and part of the St Jude’s Care family.

We are looking to build a small, consistent team of live‑in support workers to support a gentleman in his 40s with cerebral palsy, living in his own home.

This is a 2‑week on / 4‑week off rotation, employed directly by St Jude’s Care, offering stability, structure, and the chance to build a meaningful, long‑term working relationship. If you don't want 4 weeks off, we will find you work with another placement in the gaps.

About the Client

The client is a vibrant, social individual with a strong personality and a great sense of humour. He:

  • Is in his 40s and has cerebral palsy

  • Is non‑verbal and communicates confidently using a tablet (operated with his nose)

  • Lives a full, active lifestyle and enjoys:

  • Going to clubs, festivals, and live events

  • Visiting pubs, the beach, and spending time with friends

  • Being out and about rather than staying at home

He is a late riser, usually starting his day around 10–11 am, and often goes to bed around 1 am, so this role suits someone comfortable with a later daily rhythm and an active social lifestyle.

The client has expressed a preference for male support workers, particularly due to personal care needs and shared lifestyle interests.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you’ll provide person‑centred support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism, helping them to live fulfilling, meaningful lives while promoting independence, choice and wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing practical and emotional support in line with individual support plans

  • Encouraging independence and supporting people to develop daily living skills

  • Supporting individuals with routines, activities and community involvement

  • Promoting positive communication and using appropriate support strategies

  • Supporting individuals to manage their emotional wellbeing and behaviour positively

  • Maintaining accurate records and working collaboratively with the wider care team

  • Ensuring care is delivered in a safe, respectful and empowering way at all times

  • Driving individuals to their day placements or activities

Every interaction matters. Your support will help individuals feel understood, valued and confident, enabling them to live their lives with dignity, choice and greater independence.

About You – The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for caring, reliable individuals who are passionate about making a positive difference in people’s lives. At St Jude’s Care, attitude and values are just as important as experience.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be kind, compassionate and respectful, with a genuine desire to support others

  • Have a person‑centred approach and treat everyone with dignity and empathy

  • Be reliable, professional and committed to delivering high‑quality care

  • Communicate clearly and confidently with clients, families and colleagues

  • Be able to work independently while also being part of a supportive team

  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the people we support

  • Have the right to work in the UK

  • Have a full UK Driving Licence

  • Able to work every other weekend

Previous experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism is essential for this role, as you will be providing person‑centred support to people with a range of needs. This experience may come from a variety of social care settings and should demonstrate an understanding of positive behaviour support, communication needs and promoting independence. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. What matters most is your willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a strong commitment to supporting people to live safely, confidently and independently.

Why Work for St Jude’s Care?

Our benefits include:

  • Optional company pension scheme, including Salary Sacrifice Scheme

  • Refer a Friend bonus scheme

  • Flexible working patterns and agreed rotas to support a healthy work–life balance
