Live-in Carers want longer employment and higher pay survey reveals

08/03/2015

Live-in care workers want to work longer for one employer and receive higher pay, a new survey from the job board that focuses on the specialist care niche reveals. “Live-In Care is a specialist area of home care, where carers live with the care receiver to provide 24 hour care.

www.liveincarejobs.co.uk a job board with over 11.000 specialist registered Live-In Carers on their CV database released the results last February 28, 2015. Live-in carers with experience of more than a year were the survey’s main subjects.

Survey results indicate live-in carers are inclined to remain with the same employer rather than frequently swapping one boss for another. 42.8% of carers interviewed said they only expect to change employers every five years. One carer said, “I would like to stay with the same employer. When I start working with someone I expect to have a long working relationship.”

The majority of carers that were questioned also expressed desire for higher pay. 51.6% said their current weekly salary range is £450-£600. However, 58.7% said their ideal weekly income is £550-£700.

The survey also examined the top job websites which live-in carers prefer to use and the most desirable live-in care agencies in the UK. Asked to rank sites in a scale of 1 (least desirable) to 5 (most desirable), carers picked Liveincarejobs.co.uk (4.4 rating) as the top website they want to deal with. Other preferred sites such as Indeed (3.3 rating) and Reed (3.0 rating). The top-rated live-in care agencies according the survey participants are Christies Care, Country Cousins, Oxford Aunts and Consultus Care.

The results of the survey came after think-tank Resolution Foundation released its report showing that 160,000 care workers in the UK are not compensated with the £6.50 hourly minimum wage and are losing £815 each annually.

The survey also revealed a 95% approval rating for www.liveincarejobs.co.uk as the place to find live in care roles. One survey respondent said, “I came across it [liveincarejobs.co.uk] and had a job in a matter of weeks. Surprised it could happen really. Have learned a lot since then.”
