Growing need for more personal care assistants

17/02/2014

Councils are urging more people to consider taking up a role in personal care, to match the growing demand for those seeking their services.  Von Reeve, speaking for Worcestershire County Council noted that with many more adults who require social care now being given their own personal budgets to spend, many are using them to employ the services of personal care assistants.

With this increase in choice over their own care, more Worcestershire residents than ever are looking for personal care assistants who are there to help them with practical daily tasks including cooking, getting dressed and washing. Care assistants can also be called upon to help and support adults who need assistance in order to help them get out and about and socialise. Employing such a person can help people to maintain a good quality of life and as more people choose to be looked after in their own homes, the sector is set to grow.

Personal care assistants can work full time or part time hours meaning that they can fit their work in around their families and other commitments, and is a rewarding job that can be very enjoyable. Not only does it provide a regular wage, but it is flexible and can be an ideal way for caring individuals to fill their spare time. Students, retired people and parents who want to work around their children’s schooling are all ideal candidates for personal care jobs. All assistants must be CRB checked and their services monitored to ensure they meet the required standard.
