I've worked as an EA, PA and office manager for years. I feel that there are a lot of transferable skills to the role of a carer in terms of helping to provide an organised foundation for others, to help remove stress and problems, to anticipate peoples needs and proactively sort potential issues. I'm drawn to care also from having seen the quality of the friendship my grandfather had with his carer and how this vastly improved his later years. Providing care, companionship and support for others is deeply rewarding. I have direct experience of caring for my partner with cancer, this gave me hands on experience with medication management, toileting and hygiene support. I learned how to maintain a person's dignity when their body may not be on the same page. I worked for two years in the UK as a care worker/ support worker with Allied Health. I have excellent references from both employers. I also worked as a live in care assistant for a private client with Multiple sclerosis who would be happy to give a reference. While the work was challenging, I enjoyed doing something that was meaningful and satisfying. I had never imagined I could learn so much about myself and life in general from doing such work. I would cherish an opportunity to work for your organization. In South Africa I worked in Palliative care and again always find that this kind of work gives meaning to life.
