I wanted to do something very different with my life and become a support worker for a lovely young man with cerebral palsy. Adam is quadriplegic and needed support in every aspect of his day. I did not ever see this as care work as he had many people who cared for him, he just needed support in achieving the things in life we all take for granted. Everyday I strived to make him believe that nothing was impossible. While it may have been done slightly different with his medical condition, we would always find a way. Adam was very lucky in life. Yes he had his limitations with parts of his life, but he has parents who love him very much and a granddad who dotes on him. There was one other person in his life that he loved very much, and that was his uncle Rich. You may now guess that’s me and I’m very proud to say. I also cared for my step father during his 18 month battle with cancer, helping with peg feeding and maintenance, personal care and sadly end of life. ...
