I was born in India, completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Bombay, India, after which I worked in the private sector before leaving for Switzerland to work with the United Nations in 1987. After completing a number of years of working in various peacekeeping missions in various post-conflict countries, I decided to settle down in 2007 when my mother was diagnosed with living the Alzheimer’s disease, and I ensured that she was brought back to her home from a private senior home where she was among other seniors who were not mentally challenged. I applied for leave without pay and lived with her at home to care for her with a half-time nurse. As it was not possible to handle this situation alongside my career, I resigned from my 23 years of service with the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, and returned to India in 2009 to care for until she passed away early 2012. ...
