I have worked for a year in a residential care home for those with acquired or congenital brain injuries or conditions I.e those with brain damage caused by birth or epilepsy trauma, downs syndrome, cerebral palsy etc.
Most residents have complex health problems ranging from the need to be PEG fed ,for which I have been trained, to self harming to mobility issues.
I am quite used to performing personal care.
My journey into care work comes after partially caring for my disabled mother.
The most important aspect of care work for me is the ability to professionally provide physical care whilst actively promoting as much independence and FUN as possible.
