Live-In Care Assistant – 1 Week On / 1 Week Off

We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and engaging Live-In Care Assistant to support an elderly gentleman living in his own home in the Rotherham area.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support a gentleman who has a diagnosis of dementia but presents very well, enjoys conversation, and remains physically active and independent in many aspects of his daily life. He has a strong and supportive family network who are actively involved in his care and well-being.

About the Gentleman

• Born in 1938 and recently widowed.
• Former steelworker with a great sense of humour and enjoys friendly conversation and banter.
• Has four supportive children who all live locally.
• Diagnosed with dementia in 2018.
• Polite, respectful, and able to communicate his wishes and preferences.
• Enjoys listening to music, watching television, going for walks, visiting local cafés, and tending to family graves at the cemetery.
• Likes to keep busy and often enjoys helping with light household tasks such as washing pots, light cleaning, and keeping the garden tidy.

What Support Is Required?

The role is focused on companionship, reassurance, and maintaining independence.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing companionship and meaningful conversation.
• Preparing traditional home-cooked meals.
• Gentle prompting and encouragement with personal care and showering.
• Supporting with laundry and household tasks.
• Accompanying the gentleman on outings and community activities.
• Ensuring his safety and well-being within the home and community.
• Maintaining written care records and medication administration records (MAR charts).
• Completing digital care notes and eMAR records when mobile signal is available.

Important Information

• Staff must remain present with the gentleman at all times unless family have specifically advised otherwise.
• Staff must carry a house key with them at all times, including overnight.
• The gentleman can become unsettled if he feels separated from his family and may attempt to leave the property independently; therefore, carers must be vigilant and proactive in providing reassurance and engagement.
• Family are exploring technology solutions such as door sensors and trackers to further support his independence and safety.
• Working Pattern 1 Week On / 1 Week Off
