Job Description

I am seeking a live-in carer to help me and my 31-year-old son who is on the Autistic Spectrum. Ideally to rotate with one or two other carers.

We live in a spacious home right on the seafront in Thorpe Bay.  The carer’s room has a TV and sea view. There is a bathroom for your own use.

My son is a very calm, gentle and happy young man who doesn't have any challenging behaviour. He needs someone to be at home with him always and to support him when going out.

He needs prompting and some hands-on help when washing and help with hair washing, shaving and teeth brushing. He generally manages the toilet by himself.

He enjoys playing video games, listening to music, watching some TV, reading, doing puzzles and arts and crafts when at home. He doesn't need or welcome attention all the time and will enjoy time alone to rest or enjoy self-directed activities. 

He loves to go out and enjoys walks, swimming, cycle club, bowling, crazy golf, cinema and trips further afield to places of interest or for a change of scenery.

We enjoy shared trips out together to gardens, stately homes, places of interest, cinema and concerts occasionally. 

I have severe arthritis and circulation problems which means that I struggle to walk far with sticks and use a lightweight wheelchair when out. I can drive but need assistance with my wheelchair…I can self-propel indoors and over short, level distances outside. My son helps with this when we are out together.,

At home, I cannot go up and down stairs easily or carry things when moving about the house unless using a trolley. 

I do what I can sitting down. We have housekeeping help for 16 hours a week to clean and do ironing, I manage washing laundry and cooking with some help. I need you to help keep the house tidy and with day-to-day washing up, kitchen and toilet hygiene and rubbish disposal. Also some help with ironing. 

I do most food shopping online with occasional top-up visits to a local supermarket.

I need help with meal preparation. 

You must be able to drive an automatic car with a valid UK driving licence and be 25+ for the insurance.

Must be non-smoker and non-vaper.

We request that mobile phone usage is kept to off-duty break times or for essential communication or direction/ information finding only.

You cannot run other businesses from our home. 

In order to support my son who has great understanding but very limited softly spoken speech your English language needs to be of first language level so that you can understand what he is saying and express yourself clearly to him. He needs and enjoys people to be relaxed and openly chatty and friendly while knowing when to give him time to rest. Also to encourage him to focus while providing descriptive information for his greater understanding and enjoyment. You need to have shared cultural knowledge of and interest in popular music and films. 

There is the option to share meals some or all of the time with a substitute food allowance if not. + A travel allowance of up to £50.
