Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate self-employed live-in carer to support a gentleman in his 60’s living with dementia. This is an ongoing package of care with the earliest availability preferred. Continuity of care is extremely important.

About the Client

A proud and active gentleman who enjoys getting out daily and leading an engaged lifestyle. He does not use mobility aids and has no behaviours that challenge. His dementia affects his understanding and verbal responses — he may sometimes say “no” when he means “yes.” Alternative communication approaches, such as picture cards, may be helpful.

Care Requirements

• Dementia-experienced, patient, and proactive carer
• Willing to engage in activities and support daily outings
• Prepare meals and eat with the client
• Provide gentle prompting and encouragement with:
  • Personal care (client can be reluctant to accept assistance)
  • Continence care (bladder – pads worn; requires reminders and prompts to use bathroom)
• Lay out clothes, prepare items, and offer consistent reassurance

Personal Qualities Required

• Warm, respectful, and encouraging approach
• Able to build trust gradually
• Reliable – continuity is paramount
• Male or female carer considered
• Driver with a car essential
• Interest in surfing as client previously enjoyed this activity.
