About the role

Arbour Companions & Care is looking for an experienced, patient female live-in carer for our client, a warm and sociable lady in her late 30s living in her own bungalow in Surrey. She lives with multiple sclerosis and epilepsy and is registered blind, but with the right support she leads an active, structured life full of routine, outings and family time – and she wants a carer who helps her do things for herself, not someone who takes over.

What the role involves

• Prompting and supporting her through a consistent daily routine – she manages much of her personal care and morning routine herself with set-up, prompts and patience

• Monitoring for seizures and administering buccal midazolam (Buccolam) rescue medication in line with her epilepsy care plan

• Supporting medication, meal preparation and a healthy, caffeine-free diet

• Driving her car to appointments, activities, family visits and outings (she loves Costa, 80s music in the car, and Sunday visits to her parents)

• Housekeeping, laundry and keeping her home exactly as she likes it

• Companionship – word searches, colouring, Netflix evenings, and helping her keep in touch with friends

Who we're looking for

• Female applicants only – being female is a genuine occupational requirement for this role (Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1)

• Experience supporting people with MS and epilepsy/seizures

• Trained in buccal midazolam administration (or willing to complete training before placement – we can arrange this)

• Full driving licence valid in the UK and confident driving the client's car

• Patient, consistent and respectful of routine and independence – this placement suits a carer who can prompt rather than do

• Experience of visual impairment support an advantage

• Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check

What you'll get

• £1000-1120 per week

• Your own bedroom, food and accommodation provided

• A settled, single-client placement with a clear routine, a daily 2-hour afternoon break, and Sundays 11am–6pm off while the client visits family

• Choice of employed or self-employed status

• Full training (including Buccolam), ongoing support and a dedicated care manager
