About the family:

SENNIES are excited to offer this wonderful placement for an exceptional candidate, that is excellently well located and offers lots of opportunity for travel. The family are looking to find an enthusiastic and passionate Sennie (SEN Nanny) to care for their two children G5.5 and B3. Primary care will be for G5.5 who has a rare genetic condition that has impacted on her cognitive development. The ideal candidate will be positive, energetic, patient & kind. Even though the emphasis will be on their daughter, her little brother B3, will also need some help getting ready for starting school in September

The family had previously employed an excellent live-in nanny who’s background as a Special Educational Needs Teacher gave her the tools to encourage and aid in G5.5’s development. They are keen to find a nanny with a similar level of experience who can continue with the progress that has already been made and who can support their children through their transition back into mainstream schooling after a very inconsistent and irregular year.

About G.5.5:

G 5.5 is a magical little girl who charms everyone she meets. She has a big heart and is very empathetic. She loves all kinds of arts and crafts including: painting, making jewellery with her beads and drawing. She is passionate about cooking (and eating!) and loves to bake. She is full of energy and really enjoys dancing and singing so a Sennie (SEN nanny) with a creative streak who can keep up with G.5 is essential.

G5.5 was diagnosed with an incredibly rare genetic mutation at 2 years old, resulting in several delays to her cognitive and physical development. The family introduced a lot of early interventions; working alongside speech and language specialists, occupational therapists, and employing a nanny who was also a fully qualified special education teacher all of which had a hugely positive impact on G5 and led to her being able to attend a brilliant mainstream school. Whilst her learning is still behind her peers suggested levels, she had been doing really well and defying all expectations.

Unfortunately, since the school closures in December last year, G5 has started to fall behind with her education and development, and due to the homeschooling set up and lack of structure, some behaviours that challenge have started to emerge and she has started to struggle with emotional dysregulation.

The family would like to find a Sennie who can help in the short - term to get her back on track and provide her with the support she needs, utilising interventions and programs as designated by her specialists.

Her key areas for development and support are:

  • Independence/Self care - In line with G5’s age and developmental stage

  • Fine & Gross Motor Skills - Helping G5.5 with exercises as recommended by her OT and Physio along with any additional activities or ideas that could benefit G5

  • Emotional Regulation such as: identifying triggers for G.5.5 and coming up with ideas to help her cope with or express her emotions in a safe and positive way

  • Physical activity - Improving her physical activity by engaging activities such as riding a bike

  • Understanding boundaries - Creating clear and consistent boundaries that G5 can understand and follow to improve behaviours and help her to feel more secure

  • Continuing Speech and Language work and other therapies

About B3:

B3 is a very curious, cheeky and happy little boy. He loves busses, trains, helicopters, cars and planes. He loves to play independently and can spend hours reading his books. B3 is very sporty and loves adventures.

Whilst most of the care will be focused on G5.5, it is important that the Sennie selected is able to connect with and build a relationship with B3 too, especially as he will be making the transition into full - time schooling in September and so working with him on extending his vocabulary and improving on his phonics and numbers skills will be required.

About the role:

This is a great role with a lot of scope for the Sennie to take the lead on organising developmental activities and to help both children, not just developmentally, but socially, emotionally and mentally.

Main duties include:

  • Occasional help with the morning routine including school drop off

  • School pick up

  • Homework help/support

  • Liaising with specialists such as the Speech and Language and Occupational Therapist to ensure interventions and therapies are being continued effectively at home

  • Engaging the children in their preferred activities

  • Creating a clear and consistent schedule

  • Implementing firm boundaries around behaviours and completing tasks

  • Taking children to/from appointments and sessions such as physiotherapy

  • Preparing/Cooking meals for the children (predominantly during holidays)

  • Preparing the children for their bedtime routine - bath time included (predominantly during holidays)

  • Aiding G5.5 in her key areas of development and coming up with strategies and ideas to do so

  • Evening babysitting

We are looking for someone who can help both children succeed in their developmental goals, build upon their independence, help G5.5 to regulate her emotions and work on implementing techniques and ideas to help with routine and structure. Someone who has prior experience with special educational needs and who has that real passion for working with additional needs is imperative.

The family are looking for an enthusiastic, high energy and caring Special Educational Needs Nanny. The Sennie selected will be able to follow and support therapies and interventions determined by the family (in conjunction with the Sennie) and professionals.
