I have worked as a part time Health Care Assistant for a family whose 72-year-old father suffered a stroke. I assisted him with basic needs which included getting him out of bed in the morning and bathing him. I also assisted with the preparation of his meals and feeding. My primary role was to act in the best interest of the client and allowing him to make his own decisions and honouring his requests. The role that remains closest to my heart and the one that made me become a carer was taking care of my mother who was diagnosed with Dementia among other health complications a few years ago and required assistance with bathing, feeding, mobility, medication, companionship as well as attending to all of her other needs.
