I currently work as a support worker (carer) for people with severe learning and physical disabilities. I take great pride in my work. As a support worker, I regularly perform moving and handling, using slide sheets, hoists (both standard and tracking), slings, bed baths, changing pads, etc. I look after residents with full mobility, who cannot walk, and those in between. I look after residents who are entirely nonverbal, those who can talk, and those in between. Many of our residents exhibit challenging behavior, some are often violent, some refuse to eat, or refuse to bathe/ be bathed, and some refuse medication (which I am trained to administer). I handle many kinds of administration from booking and meeting appointments, dealing with household bills, managing finances, etc. and our residents range in age from some who are not yet 30 but most are elderly or in late middle age.
