Having cared for my elderly mother during the early stages of her vascular dementia diagnosis, I gained an understanding of the needs of a good carer. I learned the importance of systems, protocols and routines, especially with regard to record keeping generally, and specifically administration of medication, finances, implementation of care plans. Providing stimulating and appropriate activities, trips, and experiences was a key feature of my care. Providing resources and opportunities for crafting, making and listening to music, storytelling, gentle, regular exercise, and attendance at her local church, worked best for her. I believe that I would bring a number of qualities to any caring role: 1. Hyper vigilant attention to safety and safeguarding. 2. Endless patience and resilience. 3. Creativity and the ability to really listen to clients' needs, choices, and preferences. 4. Unfailing good humour, and the ability to make the best out of any situation. ...

I have 15 years housekeeping experience and 3 years caring for the elderly, inlucding most recently caring for a lady with severe dementia. I tend to develop a close rapport with the individual I am taking care of and their close family members. My duties involved general day to day tasks, administrating medication, helping with personal hygiene and getting dressed, companionship, when needed use Sarastedy Macworth and wheelchair, making home cooked meals, shopping , laundry. I consider myself to be good company and able listen to others, exchange stories and experiences, which enables us to engage and relate with each other.
