Personal statement My realisation for a career in social care occurred whilst undertaking a bachelor’s degree program at Daystar University Kenya where I studied Community Development as a Minor Course and Business Administration as a Major. The Community Development Course Practicum module required working with the community. Since then, my interest gradually developed and I have passionately been attending to each individual in accordance with the requirements of their support plan in a person-centred way for the varied, different needs that apply to each one and in an anti-discriminatory way, that ensures everyone is attended as their need determines and is included in an equal and diverse way. Individuals of different races, ages, faith, disabilities are attended according to their specific personalised support plans that respects their abilities, choices, dignity, and independence. For example, providing or informing of a choice of activities such as shopping, beauty care, clothing, cookery, food/meals, art and craft, horse riding, swimming, school, drives among many. Such personalised support has been impactful in promoting choice, abilities, attaining individual potential plans that promotes their independence, empowers and improves their lives. Along the years, I have categorically participated in these activities in a social, psychological, and economic way, supporting, monitoring how individuals engage in their specific activities and providing information as required. This level of involvement with the individuals, developed my personal participation in their lives as a critical duty for a social care career. Support work has been crucial in learning, development, implementation, reflection, developing skills and competencies that have enabled the formation of a resilient foundation and participation. ...
