My name is Karmen. I’ve been a carer for just short of a year now (started in December 2025).
How I came about becoming a carer; I used to be a dog walker and pet sitter (huge lover of animals) and although it was fulfilling in many ways, financially it just wasn’t sustainable. A friend of mine suggested caring and said that I would be really good at it so I gave it a go! She’s been a carer for over 6 years and said that my nature would be perfect for it, and she was right - I’m a patient, calm, caring and understanding person by nature and the clients I have worked with have really enjoyed me and have always requested that I return to them after my break. Unfortunately, cloning doesn’t exist! I’ve been asked to work at a few clients and currently have 3 that I rotate between and even became the lead carer at one of them.
This has given me experience in Dementia, Parkinson’s and general frailty that comes with aging. It’s also been character building as every person and placement is different and you have to be adaptable.
Although care work can be quite demanding, I find it so rewarding.
I have completed all of the essential and mandatory certificates, but nothing beats learning like hands-on experience!
What do I like to do in my spare time? I enjoy reading a good book, watching series or movies, and I’ve recently taken on doing macramé which I’m thoroughly enjoying. Other things I like doing when I’m not on duty and have time off; I like going out and socialising with my friends. I also enjoy seeing live bands, going travelling, and of course, walking my own dogs. I do try and make the most of life. I enjoy spending time in nature and with animals.
I have a full UK driver’s license, DBS checked, and fully insured, and full right to work in the UK.
