I got interested in healthcare when I took care of my late older sister who who took sick in South Africa in 2015 whilst on holiday. In taking care of her both at home and later in hospital led me to be more patient, compassionate, respectful to her needs and wishes and had more confidence in being helpful to others who shared the ward with her. This led me to volunteer at a poly clinic in the area I lived. My duties volunteering as a care assistant at a poly clinic included; Wound dressing, preparation of tray and cleaning instruments. Checking dressing packs for holes, dampness and expiry date. Charting:-checking and recording temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure. Dump dusting/Sluicing and cleaning sluice room. Infection control/personal hygiene.
