My name is Maria and I´m from Porto, Portugal.
I´m working as a Live-in carer in the UK for almost 12 years.
I have accommodation in England but I still have my home in Portugal, where I travel on my breaks ( usually 4 weeks on-2 weeks off).
I´ve decided to work as a Live-in carer in the UK when I found myself unemployed and since then I've embraced the " lifestyle" of spending some weeks caring for someone and living in their own home, because I found it quite rewarding and I´ve met people and places that I´ll never forget.
I´m graduated in Art History and Fashion design, but all my life I´ve cared for family members privately - my grandmother, mother in law, father, nephew, 2 aunties.... so, when a new career was needed, Live-in , in the UK, a country that I love and wanted to explore looked interesting because I had the personality s for the job..
Through the years , I´ve done training and courses in Parkinsons, End of life care, Dementia, moving and handling and many others . Also, I have an annual refreshing and the experience I´ve gained were very important improving my performance when caring for a vulnerable person and helping that their daily life gets a bit more " sunny" and safer.
As an educated person, I try to look at the bright side of the job that allowed me to hear stories and learn with many clients, some with more than 100 years old.
