I have most recently worked with a private spinally injured female client with a 2 weeks on 2 weeks off rotation. I left in June when I had an opportunity in the events sector for the summer, although this has now ended and won't be repeated this summer.
I am female, 37, from Southampton UK, with five years experience of being a personal assistant for people with spinal injuries. I have worked with four regular clients, ensuring daily routine tasks like personal care, manual handling/hoisting, medication, driving, cooking and cleaning were done to a high and safety driven standard, with accurate records kept and communicated to relevant persons. I always remain professional and maintain a friendly and positive disposition when at work, no matter the task or time of day. I am keen on learning other aspects of care work, and happy to move away from spinal injured clients, as long as the hours are still long and busy! I have good stamina and prefer to be busy and active, as opposed to sitting about.
I am looking for another regular placement to suit my availability for the next couple of years, in order to build some savings and renovate my house. Preferably a two week on two week off rotation.
A little bit about me: I'm a non smoker with no dependents. I am quite active and enjoy a wide range of hobbies, from arts and crafts and music, to bird/nature watching and gardening. I am also a keen participant in various sports such a cycling, running, swimming and kayaking. I am a Psychology university graduate from 2008 and also a qualified swimming teacher. I'm no professional chef but I enjoy cooking and have been recently learning about how to cook for specific food intolerance's and allergies.
My eventual ambition is to own a small campsite and gardens, and a goat. I have addresses to reside at in Rhondda, Southampton and Honiton, with my main address being in Southampton. I spend much of my time travelling the country in my campervan, sometimes with my partner, sometimes without! I also occasionally work at events on short term (less than a week long) contracts. Patience, positivity and my ability to chat about anything are my most valued traits and transferable anywhere. Most of all, I am consistent and smiley! I have worked with children in the past when I was a swimming teacher, and really enjoy spending time with my 1 and 2yr old nieces in Brighton.
I am 'covid aware', I have had three vaccinations with my last in January (but with no more currently due) and would be able to isolate in my own home on my own before placement if necessary. Happy to discuss this.
The reason I aim for live in care placements instead of what some may call a 'normal' job is because of the time off I can have available in between to pursue my other hobbies such as travelling. There aren't many jobs which can allow for this! But I remain flexible and will make myself available when my clients need that extra mile.
