Hello, my name is Samantha. I was placed through an Introductory Agents to look after a lovely couple as a Live In Carer/ Companion. Sadly they have both recently passed away within two months of each other. The lady was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her husband had poor mobility. During the three years I spent with them, they joined a lunch club and we went out on many outings to garden centres, restaurants the seaside and enjoyed afternoon teas at different locations. I ensured they had routine and arranged for friends to visit and attended church with them.
During lockdown I arranged family zoom calls, we had quiz evenings at home and enjoyed picnics in the garden. We played memory games and watched old movies together. We looked through family photo albums and they recalled stories of their younger days. I read aloud to them and to help cheer the 94 year old man, I helped to paint his bedroom. I remembered their children's and grand children's birthday's and bought presents and wrapped them to give each other. I arranged birthday lunches and Valentines and anniversary meals.
Prior to this placement, I trained at Helping Hands where I obtained the Care Certificate. I have had lots of experience in caring for people with Alzheimer's and Dementia and those recovering from surgery and in being a good companion.
I am a highly competent professional who is kind and caring with excellent interpersonal skills. I am trustworthy discreet and I have a passion in caring for others and to enhance the quality of their lives. To be able to help an elderly person to remain in their home and all that is familiar to them, is a role which I find extremely rewarding.
I am an adept multi -tasker competent at liaising with medical professionals and will keep a keen eye on any health concerns. I am used to dealing with contractors to carry out any leaks or various other household repairs and make any travel arrangements and doing the online food shop.
In my spare time, I enjoy Pilates walking and baking. I have a keen interest in Current Affairs and Art and I follow Tennis. I am friendly and outgoing and will keep you company but at the same time, I have total respect for privacy and dignity. I am also fit and healthy. Although I don't hold a Drivers Licence, the family I worked for held an account with a local mini cab firm which we used for attending appointments and outings. I can provide references and am able to start soon. I am interested in permanent placements.
