Retired Speech and Language Therapist specialising in enabling, communication., even when speech was not possible; Diagnoses included Cerebral Palsy, Learning Disability, Sensory Impairment, Autism, Head Injury, Stroke and Dementia. Sometimes my role went beyond the usual scope of Therapist, e.g. liaising with other professionals, helping with IT and finding accessible activities.
I have helped friends and family with Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's Schizophrenia, Myeloma, and Visual Impairment: providing practical care and attending appointments as advocate Time with them showed me the challenges that everyday situations present, but also how challenges can often be overcome with patience and flexibility.
At 55, to try something different, I trained in TEFL, and spent 2 years working in Italy. Back the UK, I am teaching online, and volunteering. I am now seeking new work experience, and would like to use my work and life experience to help a person stay in their own home and live as fully as possible.
