ASK JULES LTD: From April 2024 to date I have worked at Ask Jules Ltd for a young adult in Manchester with spinal cord injury as well as picking up covers for other young students at universities across the country.
The duties which are similar but peculiar depending on the individual included assisting to help sit up in bed in the morning and undress, hoisting unto wheelchair, set up bathroom for all personal care, assist to get dressed, set up laptop, prepare breakfast and he eats, set up all needed at school for the day and drive to school. We both walk( him on wheelchair) to his classroom and I wait outdoors or in the car and he calls me when class is over, we walk to the library and he reads out pages that I copy for him.
I either drive him home to do lunch or he buys one, he is excused to spend time with friends in school while I stay back in the van or just sit about until he calls me and we drive back home.
He would normally ask to be alone and he calls me in to prepare dinner. We chat over dinner and he goes back to his room to be alone then calls me to help with having his shower if needed before he goes to bed.
And for other cover in Bournemouth for a young under graduate which had two PAs, my colleague and I shared responsibilities and they were similar to what I did as listed above, except he was assisted to feed.
Just before the cover at Bournemouth I did a cover for young a graduate near Preston with similar responsibilities, he was more engaged in sports ( power chair football) which he enjoyed and along with his father we assisted him in practice.
He is a Manchester City fan and with his friends did match podcasts, we did shopping together, he loved to participate in kitchen activities, we played music and talked quite a lot about football matches.

I started job for an elderly man with mild dementia in high Wycombe, care involved companionship, cooking his meals, driving him to the coffee shop to meet friends every morning to have a chat, visiting friends in the village, cleaning home and washing clothes/ dishes and five months into my care for the gentleman his health deteriorated after suffering a mild stroke and he was held in hospital.
