My first experience of working in a caring role was about 5 years ago. I have discovered that my previous background in management has afforded me skills that can be advantageously applied to a caring role. Example is the ability to intelligently assess a situation and respond calmly and confidently. Another is the experience of interacting socially at all levels. This has enabled me to develop strong relationships with my clients, whereby all aspects of daily living from personal care and medicine management to serving drinks at a party have been entrusted to me.
Should a person choose independent living, I feel strongly that he or she should be supported in this choice, and this is one of main reason that I have chosen to work within this industry.
