Job Description
Live-In Carer – Join Our Team & Our Life
Location: Live-in, Hampshire
Pay: £200 per day
Start: around 26th August
Initial commitment: 4–6 week trial, with the possibility of becoming a long-term position
Accommodation: Your own bedroom in a separate flat next door
Bonus: Dog lovers very welcome – friendly White Swiss Shepherd included!
We’re looking for the right person to join our team
We’re looking for a warm, reliable and easy-going live-in carer to join an established two-person care team supporting a sociable 36-year-old man with a muscular disability.
This is much more than a traditional care role.
He uses a power wheelchair and needs assistance with personal care, moving and handling, and everyday tasks, but this is a home, not a clinical environment. He is independent-minded, sociable and has a great sense of humour, and he enjoys getting out and making the most of life.
Our lives include travel, concerts, meals out, seeing friends, days out, relaxing at home and planning the next adventure. We’re looking for someone who would genuinely enjoy being part of that, rather than someone who simply wants to come in, do a shift and leave.
The ideal person would become a trusted part of our small team and, over time, part of our life.
The opportunity
We are particularly interested in finding someone who is looking for something longer-term and stable, rather than moving from one short care placement to another.
We understand that committing to a new situation straight away can be difficult, so we'd initially start with a 4–6 week trial period. If everyone gets on well, our hope is that this could develop into a long-term arrangement.
For the right person, this could be a fantastic opportunity to have a well-paid live-in position while also travelling, experiencing new places, enjoying social activities and becoming part of a genuinely friendly household.
And if you happen to love dogs, even better – our White Swiss Shepherd, is a big part of the family!
What the role involves
-
Working alongside another carer – moving and handling is always done as a pair
-
Assisting with complex personal care and everyday tasks
-
Supporting independence and helping him do things on his own terms
-
Providing companionship and being part of everyday life
-
Helping with outings, meals, concerts, social occasions and activities
-
Travelling with us occasionally when appropriate
-
Some light housekeeping and helping to keep things running smoothly
-
Being available and on-call during the day, while also having plenty of genuine downtime
-
Working as part of a small, respectful and supportive team
No two days are exactly the same. Some days may involve going out and doing something exciting; others might simply be a quiet day at home.
We are looking for someone who can adapt to that and who enjoys having a varied lifestyle.
Your home while you're with us
Although this is a live-in position, you don't live in the same flat as us.
You will have your own bedroom in a separate two-bedroom flat in the building next door, shared with the other carer.
The carers' flat has its own:
-
Kitchen
-
Bathroom
-
Living area
-
Private bedroom
This gives you your own space to cook, relax, have some time to yourself or simply switch off at the end of the day.
We think this is one of the things that makes the arrangement work so well: you're close enough to be part of the team, but you still have your own space and privacy.
Who we're looking for
We're not necessarily looking for someone with a long list of qualifications.
The most important things to us are personality, reliability and attitude.
You should be:
-
Warm, kind and genuinely caring
-
Patient and emotionally mature
-
Comfortable providing personal care
-
Reliable and responsible
-
A good communicator
-
Easy-going and able to get along with others
-
Comfortable working as part of a small team
-
Adaptable and happy that every day can be different
-
Happy to join in with outings and occasional travel
-
Comfortable around a large, friendly dog
-
Looking for something that could become long-term
-
Happy with the live-in arrangement and sharing accommodation with the other carer
Previous care experience is welcome, but it's not everything. The right personality, common sense, and willingness to learn are far more important to us.
Why this could be different from a normal care job
This isn't a traditional 9–5 care position, and it isn't a clinical environment.
You'll be helping someone live the life he wants to live – and you'll be part of that life too.
That might mean coming along to a concert, travelling somewhere new, having dinner out, meeting friends, spending a relaxed evening at home or simply helping make everyday life easier.
We're looking for someone who enjoys people, experiences and a bit of adventure, and who would like to build a genuine long-term working relationship based on trust, respect and friendship.
In return, you'll have:
£200 per day + your own accommodation + a varied lifestyle + travel and social opportunities + a supportive two-person team + the potential for a long-term position.
If you're looking for a role where you're treated as a person rather than simply a carer, and where you can become part of a small team and a really enjoyable way of life, we'd love to hear from you.
Interested?
If this sounds like the kind of opportunity you'd enjoy, please email liveincarer2018@gmail.com with a little about yourself, your experience (if any), your availability and what you're looking for in a longer-term position.
We're happy to answer any questions and arrange an informal chat/interview.
This is a live-in position, and we're open to applicants from anywhere in the UK or overseas, subject to the right to work in the UK.
