I am a disabled curator and postgraduate student, seeking a part-time PA / Carer to support me in my busy, varied life. I’m looking for someone reliable, kind and genuinely committed to this role. You’ll support me day to day – whether at home, or accompanying me to lectures, meetings, cultural events, and on trips (including occasional international travel), working with me to help keep daily life running smoothly.

You will work with me (live-in) for 10 days per month, normally in one continuous shift. This is a unique opportunity to do something fulfilling and interesting alongside studying or working on other projects - there will often be several hours of downtime during the day. The role is primarily based in my home in central London, in an area surrounded by culture and history. If you enjoy a tidy, well-ordered home and the rhythms of daily life, but also appreciate moments of exploration and adventure, this could be the perfect role for you.

I’m a 28-year-old male, and I have SMA, which means I use an electric wheelchair. I require support for most daily tasks, including personal care (washing, dressing). I work in the art world - outside of work and studying, I enjoy going to a wide range of cultural events, spending time with friends and family, making pottery and looking after my collection of houseplants. I value wellbeing and creating an inclusive, collaborative working environment.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring responsibility, organisation and initiative, along with a strong sense of empathy. Learning fast will be crucial, and curiosity and open-mindedness are strongly encouraged. You will be a clear and reliable communicator, physically fit, skilled in managing a tidy home, and confident in cooking. Most importantly, you’ll be great at providing care and support, while also being discreet, giving me independence and privacy.

What you’ll do:

• Support me with daily activities: washing, dressing, shopping, running errands, accompanying me when out, planning and cooking meals for us both.
• Maintain excellent communication at all times and remain on call during downtime to support me as needed.
• From time to time, you should be prepared to work early mornings/late evenings, and be able to adapt to changes in my schedule.
• Support me with the use of specialist equipment, including a hoist and ventilator (training provided).
• Drive me in my vehicle in the London area. For this reason, candidates should hold a valid driving license and be comfortable driving in London.
• Be highly organised: working to deadlines and time pressures, planning ahead, using initiative to help me organise my life, taking responsibility for keeping my flat a tidy and welcoming place.
• Learn how to best support me, taking on more responsibility as you progress in the role.
• Previous experience in care work is not required, and training will be provided. If you think you would be a good fit but do not meet some of the criteria, please consider applying anyway - you might just be the right person for the role.

Benefits include accommodation with a private bathroom, a main meal provided per day and 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday pro rata.
