Job Description

Live-In Carer (1 Week per Month) – Nottinghamshire

This is a long-term, one week per month live-in role supporting our mother in her home.

She is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. She’s mobile, positive and still very much herself and does not require personal care. What she does need is structure, companionship, and someone who can elevate her day-to-day life.

She’s naturally cheerful and enjoys the company of someone who is positive, relaxed, and able to have a laugh. We’re not looking for an overly intense or overly clinical personality - more someone who brings a calm, easy presence. And you’ll need to love dogs - she has two loving dogs who are a big part of her life.

The Role

This is not a clinical or task-heavy care role.

We’re looking for someone who naturally brings warmth, ease, and good energy into a home.

The role includes:

  • Being genuinely good company - engaging, conversational, and present
  • Encouraging a social and active lifestyle within the village (accompanying on walks, classes, cafés, all within easy reach of the home)
  • Supporting light cognitive stimulation through reading, conversation, and simple activities like crosswords
  • Cooking fresh, nutritious meals (all food provided)
  • Keeping the home feeling calm, organised, and well cared for
  • Managing medication, including daily Alzheimer’s patches
  • Keeping a simple daily log (including medication) and flagging any concerns promptly
  • Caring for two very friendly  (including walks together and feeding them)
  • Taking a proactive, solution-oriented approach to the home — noticing what needs doing and taking ownership to resolve it.

This is a long-term, ongoing role, working alongside another live-in carer. It’s important that you’re collaborative, easy to work with, and able to maintain a positive, respectful dynamic - a smooth handover and good relationship between carers is essential. She has her own room and may occasionally be present during her time off while working on her photography, but will not interfere with your role. It’s a calm, respectful, and well-established setup that works very well.

The Environment

This is not a typical care setting.

You’ll be based in a beautiful Georgian home in a picturesque village near Newark, Nottinghamshire. Think quintessential English countryside.

You will have:

  • Your own large, private room with a super-king bed
  • Supermarket, butcher, cafés, pubs, and library all within walking distance
  • A large walled garden, greenhouse, and homegrown fruit and vegetables

Package

  • £1k per week
  • Private accommodation within the home
  • All food provided
  • Predictable, ongoing schedule (1 week per month)

Requirements

You will need:

  • A valid DBS check and the right to work in the UK
  • Strong, verifiable references
  • Appropriate insurance (e.g. public liability)

A formal contract will be provided.

Final note

We’re not looking to “fill a shift.”

We’re looking to build a long-term relationship with the right person - someone consistent, thoughtful, and genuinely invested in maintaining a good quality of life for our mum.

How to apply

If this role genuinely resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send a short introduction outlining your experience and, importantly, why this particular role appeals to you. We value thoughtful, considered applications - it’s usually very clear when someone has taken the time to engage with the details versus sending a generic response.

While experience matters, we place equal importance on personality, emotional intelligence, and how you naturally show up in a home environment.

We’ll invite shortlisted candidates to an initial Zoom or FaceTime call to get to know you, along with a brief overview of your background.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. We will look forward to hearing from you!
