Job Description

The client is young, at 63, but has been diagnosed with dementia following a traumatic event in his life. He has been spending some time in a local care home but now lives at home. We have been providing live-in care since February 2026. He lives in the same village as the office, and his family also live locally. They have been farmers in the area for generations.

He understands his circumstances and is keen to recreate his life at home and have a good quality of life. He is unable to have detailed conversations, getting confused and struggling to find words. The support will involve looking after the house, meal preparation, support with personal care and medication. His personal care needs prompting and some physical support at times. He also has issues with continence.

This is an unusual client since he has the usual dementia issues but is physically well. Getting out of the house and being active will be a big part of the support. The client is an outdoor sort of person and so enjoys gardening and being active physically. He can easily lose confidence and so needs encouragement. There are no mobility concerns.  

The placement will pay £130 per day plus a food allowance of £50 per week or an online shop with the client. Travel will be paid from home to and from the client at the start and end of the placement (capped at £50). Bank holidays are paid at 1.5 times, and Christmas and New Year's Day at 2 times. The work pattern is two weeks on / off, with some flexibility at times with another caregiver.
