Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and reliable carer to provide high-quality daytime and waking night support for a private client living with dementia in their own home in Eastbourne.

This role forms part of a dedicated private care team and consists of five shifts per week: three consecutive day shifts and two non-consecutive waking night shifts. For candidates required to relocate, local accommodation within walking distance from the client's residence may be available for the duration of employment.  

Key Responsibilities

• Provide person-centred daytime and waking night care in line with the client’s care plan

• Remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout waking night shifts to ensure the client’s safety and comfort

• Offer reassurance and support during periods of confusion, agitation, or distress using dementia-appropriate techniques

• Assist with personal care as required, including toileting, hygiene, repositioning, and comfort measures

• Support with medication prompting and assistance, in accordance with training, care plans, and agreed protocols

• Observe and monitor the client’s wellbeing, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to senior carers, family, or relevant professionals

• Respond calmly and effectively to incidents or emergencies, following agreed procedures

• Maintain clear, accurate daily records and provide thorough handovers to other members of the care team or family

• Work respectfully within the client’s home, maintaining privacy, dignity, discretion, and professional boundaries at all times

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience working as a carer, ideally supporting individuals living with dementia

• Experience in one-to-one care or home-care environments

• Ability to work independently and take responsibility during lone working shifts

• Calm, patient, and empathetic approach, particularly during periods of distress or confusion

• Strong communication, observation, and record-keeping skills

• Willingness and ability to work waking night shifts

• Legal right to work in the UK

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience in private household care roles

• Experience providing waking night care

• Confidence supporting individuals with dementia-related behaviours

• Experience working collaboratively with families in a private setting

Working Hours

• Day shifts: 3 shifts per week, 8:00am – 8:00pm

• Waking night shifts: 2 shifts per week, 8:00pm – 8:00am

Remuneration

• Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience
