About the family:

SENNIES are working with a fun loving family of 3 children to find an engaging and dedicated before/after school and holiday Sennie who has an excellent understanding of supporting children with additional needs and finds the joy in overcoming the daily challenges and changes that come with working with children, particularly those with special educational needs. The family are looking for a Sennie who can demonstrate prior experience caring for primary aged children with additional needs, who wants to make a positive impact on the family and the life long development of the children in their care. Their most recent nannies and au pairs have very much become part of the family and have stayed for many years so a Sennie looking for a long term role would be ideal. Mum is a single parent and so she will be there to support the childcare, usually working in tandem with the Sennie.

About B9:

B9 is a sensitive, loving and kind boy who can often get lost in his thoughts, being described as a ‘thinker’. He enjoys spending time outdoors playing football, going to the park, riding his bike etc. and really likes exploring London via boat or bus. Whilst he is very active, he also needs a good amount of downtime and likes to read books, listen to music or play indoor games.

B9 is a people person with a great sense of humour however his love of social interaction can sometimes lead to him being misunderstood as his speech, language and social communication difficulties can be misread or misinterpreted. B9 requires time to process things, but he genuinely loves making meaningful connections with others. B9 can often become frustrated when tired or unable to express himself properly which can lead to ‘challenging behaviour’ - The Sennie should be able to be mindful of potential triggers for B9 for example B9 struggles with food / meal times, and support him through these moments with patience and understanding.

B9 is currently on medication prescribed for ADHD and also to help with his sleep.

About B4:

B4 is a characterful, fun and enthusiastic little boy. He loves going to the farm or the zoo, playgrounds and generally spending time outside, but like his brother, also enjoys spending time at home reading books or playing with his toys.

B4 also has a speech, language and communication condition which is making his current, typical four year old behaviours more pronounced. He needs time and a level headed approach to guide him through those big feelings and moments of overwhelm and/or when appropriate, redirecting to a different activity or space.

The boys' relationship can be complex leading to conflict regularly with them ‘setting each other off’ but they can also be the very best of friends, a Sennie who can support positive interactions between the children is essential.

Both boys attend a specialist speech and language school where they are receiving certain therapies and interventions to support their needs including; speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, play therapy and music therapy. A Sennie with some prior experience implementing some of these techniques or working alongside specialists would be beneficial.

Both boys have little awareness for their safety and so the Sennie should be reliable and work with mum to ensure that both boys are watched over and kept safe.

About G8:

G8 is a happy, outdoorsy and active little girl, with a sassy personality and a thirst for life. She currently loves horse riding, tennis and especially gymnastics. She is very sociable and enjoys going for playdates with her friends. She is independent, reliable and thoughtful most of the time, but like any child, can become frustrated and act out, which is something the Sennie should be mindful of.

G8 is typically developing and has had great relationships with her previous nannies often going on fun girls days out together.

Whilst G8 doesn’t have any ‘obvious’ needs, it is important she is not left out and her own needs also be met by the Sennie.

About the role:

The selected Sennie will provide before / after school and holiday care on a shared and sole-charge care basis, often sharing duties with mum who has always had excellent working relationships with her nannies and au pairs . The Sennie should behave as though this is a sole-charge position in terms of responsibility and pro-activity, but it is unlikely the Sennie will have sole-charge care of all 3 children at any one time. They should be comfortable and capable of working alongside mum as and when they are around and need to be involved with their children

The Sennie should be confident in using multiple approaches and tools to support the boys, and be able to work collaboratively with the family and the school to improve their methods such as visual aids, calming techniques, zones of regulation etc.

The focus for all three children is to support their interpersonal relationships with one another, improve difficulties around meal times, transitions and help create a clear and consistent routine.

Main Duties include:

  • Providing a happy, safe and stimulating environment for all children

  • Preparing school bags including making packed lunches

  • School drop off/pick up

  • Taking children to and from after school clubs / activities

  • Meal planning and preparation

  • Organising playdates, activities, day trips, camps etc.

  • Bath/Bedtime routine

  • Light nursery duties such as: cleaning down surfaces after messy play/meal times, hanging out clean laundry if required, tidying up after children/encouraging children to tidy up after themselves

  • Occasional travel with family if needed (advance notice given)

The family are looking for an upbeat, engaging and understanding Special Educational Needs Nanny, who can provide fantastic and fun care for their children. The Sennie selected will be able to follow and support therapies and interventions determined by the family (in conjunction with the Sennie) and professionals. A genuine passion for working with children and special educational needs is a must.
