Job Description

We are seeking a self-employed Care Assistant to support with a high dependency couples' package starting on Wednesday the 27th of October 2021. 

They have been married over 60 years, the wife is high risk of falls and is currently in hospital awaiting discharge after breaking her hip in a recent fall approx one month ago. She is now able to weight bear and mobilise well and walk with her frame with a carer stood next to her. The husband is currently in a Sue Ryder hospice, he is living with bone cancer which he has had for many, many years but is now terminal and has been told he has maybe 3/4 months to live. The husband has extremely good self awareness, is very well orientated and an easy going gentleman, he will be coming home with a hospital bed, the OT has assessed the home and agreed for them both to continue using the stair lift to be able to access the second floor of the house. The wife has been showing some very mild signs of confusion lately since her stay in hospital, but there is no formal diagnosis of dementia and the daughter believes it is just the amount of time she has spent in hospital away from her husband that is causing her to become disorientated. She is quite a fiesty character, really good conversationalist and is wanting a carer she can trust. 

The carer would be required to cook, clean, manage medications and personal care routines. Both sleep well at night, there may be the odd occassion where the wife may require some help going to the toilet and back but other than that there are no night time care needs. The daughter lives locally and pops in regularly to see them. The carer would also be entitled to their 2 hour break each day, to which the couple can be left alone during this time. 

The pay for this package will be £1,000.00 per week. The home address is in Gloucester.

Ideally this needs to be someone hardworking and eager to help as I believe there is quite a large amount of time to be spent each day supporting both their needs, hence the high dependency rate. The wife is a smoker and sometimes smokes in the kitchen so the carer should be accepting of this.
