Job Description

We are looking for a female personal care assistant, for my 31 year old daughter who lives in her own home in Carntyne Glasgow, and is fully supported with a team of carers, there being one staff member on shift at all occasions. My daughter is profoundly learning disabled, and is also on the autism spectrum, and is doubly incontinent. She also has no speech, but can generally understand when spoken too.
She also occasionally uses her wheelchair due to a twist in her spine, along with a weakness in her ankles, where she is at times slow and uneasy on her feet. She requires 24/7 cover and there are 5 carers assisting at present, one of which is being provided via an agency, which will cease after this recruitment. The new post will then also incorporate additional shifts to cover maternity leave commencing 4th November. Initial shifts would involve shadowing existing staff to pick up routines and gain a full understanding of practices.
All work is organised on a shift rota over a recurring two week cycle, where work is required which includes some weekend as well as weekday working, and where sleepovers are also a part of the shift pattern. The hourly rate is £8.25 per hour day rate and £35 per shift for sleep over, where day shift hours are between 7am and 11pm and sleepovers 11pm to 7am. Rostered shifts will also cover public holidays along with any natural shift cover required to cover holiday and sick days of colleagues. Leave is allowed at 5.6 weeks per year pro-rata which is calculated to include leave in lieu of any public holiday working.

Personal assistants provide full help and support with personal care, mobility, household tasks and daily living, and must have a high level of patience, energy, to be calm and able to use their own initiative, since the post entails lone working. Respect for individuality and privacy are crucial. Preparation of meals, shopping etc are included in tasks along with socialising, and therefore a car user is essential, for which an allowance is provided. Discretion and integrity are paramount as is the ability to work on your own initiative or under guidance. Must be open minded and comfortable as will be assisting with personal care e.g. showering, bathing, dressing etc, as well as domestic tasks and cooking. The ideal candidate, will have intimate personal hygiene and care routines experience, and must be highly reliable and work to a high standard. Additionally must have an honest, reliable and flexible attitude towards life and work, and work in a client centred manner.

Hours of work: Its estimated that hours will be 30 to 35 on average per week once the post takes on some of the maternity cover needed, plus associated sleepovers, all on a shift rota.
Personal Assistant Tasks:
Includes assistance with some or all of the following (list not exhaustive):
Getting in and/or out of bed
