Care Manager

Reports to: Managing Director

 

Job Purpose:

At Unfading Care, our philosophy is focused on independence and securing the peace of mind which comes from having one-to-one support and gentle companionship in your own home. It enables our clients to preserve a greater degree of independence, whilst keeping safe and maintaining their own routines in the familiarity of their own home. We believe highly personalised care on a one-to one basis in a person’s own home will enable people to maintain their independence and give them choice and control over their own lives to live a happy and healthy life.

As Care Manager,  you will take operational responsibility for the day to day management of our live in care service, which will include leading a team of carers and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and ultimately working in co-production with the people we support to achieve positive outcomes.

Unfading Care are a small, family run organisation and our Care Manager will be innovative, forward thinking and committed to helping us develop and enhance the services we provide.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Regulatory Compliance:

  • To ensure the service meets and exceeds the principles and standards of the Health and Social Care Standards (2018)
  • To ensure that compliance with all other relevant regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive, The Care Inspectorate etc
  • To ensure you build and maintain strong relationships with the Local authority and other key stakeholders and act promptly to any inspections, feedback or direction 
  • Ensure compliance and registration with the and Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC)
  • To ensure robust Governance oversight of service delivery through audits, client feedback, management of complaints, incidents and ensuring lessons learnt.

 

Service Delivery:

  • Promote independence, choice and dignity to empower people to live as independently as possible.
  • To ensure all service delivery is delivered in co-production with the people we support.
  • To ensure all policies and procedures are followed and contribute to the development of robust systems and processes
  • To ensure the service is delivered by suitably qualified, skilled, experienced and kind and compassionate staff.
  • To ensure that staff support is highly personalised with full engagement from the client and/or families. 
  • To manage and respond in a timely and professional manner to all referrals and enquiries.
  • To ensure responsive rota planning which manages annual leave and other absences effectively and safely.
  • To ensure the office is adequately resourced during office hours and contribute to an effective on call procedure

 

Leadership:

  • To manage and lead a team of live in carers, lead by example and be an effective role model.
  • To lead on the recruitment of suitably qualified, skilled staff who demonstrate strong Unfading Care vales of dignity, compassion and kindness.
  • To lead on all workforce planning: Recruitment and retention, learning and developing, supervision and appraisal, performance management including disciplinary and capability and sickness/absence management.
  • Ensure staff adhere to all policies and procedures and ensure oversight and assurances that policies are being implemented in practice.
  • Ensure all staff complete all mandatory training, and client specific training to meet individual needs.
  • Ensure, through the appraisal process that staff are offered the opportunity to develop and grow and support succession planning for the growth of the organisation.
  • Create an open and transparent culture which enables staff to contribute to the operational and strategic development of the service
  • To create a culture which encourages healthy working practices that value staff and their contribution and which puts a heavy emphasis on staff well-being.

 

Quality Assurance:

  • To contribute and implement an effective quality assurance framework which will include a robust audit schedule, internal oversight, regular staff and client meetings and evidence of robust Governance oversight 
  • To ensure actions identified in internal and external audits and inspections are made a priority and addressed in a timely fashion.
  • To create a culture of continuous improvement which is regularly monitored and involves co-production with staff and the people we support.
  • To lead and manage all complaints into the service and ensure these are responded to proactively, sensitively and lessons learnt are shared with relevant parties to ensure improvements are made.
  • Ensure effective service delivery by seeking the views of staff and clients and acting upon concerns raised.
  • Ensure all accidents and incidents and near miss events are reported, recorded and acted upon to ensure lessons learnt.
  • Ensure all regulatory notifications are raised following specific events.
  • Contribute to a monthly quality report which will collate adult protection concerns, compliments, complaints and significant events. Ensure Key performance indicators are also collated which will include client well- being and outcomes such as weight loss, skin integrity and medication incidents.

 

Service Development:

  • In partnership with the senior management team, participate in the strategic development of an innovative and forward-thinking model of care.
  • Create local and wider relationships and create a network to grow and develop the organisation through increased delivered hours, and maximising referral opportunities.
  • To identify local needs and identity marketing opportunities and support the senior management team in developing an effective marketing plan.
  • To produce Operational and Quality reports and be an outstanding ambassador for the organisation in external meetings and events.

 

Resource Management

  • To proactively manage delegated budgets ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • To develop operational controls in partnership with the senior
  • management team to ensure a commitment to cost effectiveness and value for money


 

Person Specification:

1) Skills and Abilities:

Essential:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Ability to prioritise
  • IT literate
  • History of performance management of staff
  • Ability to cope under pressure
  • Ability to motivate staff
  • Proven experience of marketing/development in a similar role
  • Strong understanding of the Health and Social Care Standards (2018)
  • An ability to work ‘hands on’ when required.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with the people we support, staff, families and other professionals and stakeholder.
  • Strong knowledge around the Equality act and dedicated to promoting a diverse and skilled staff team.
  • Positive outlook to change

 

Desirable:

  • Lives locally or understands the local demographic

 

2) Qualification & Experience:

Essential:

  • Registration with SSSC
  • 2 or more years management experience in a health or social care setting
  • SVQ4 Health and Social Care

 

Desirable:

  • Relevant professional qualifications e.g. social worker, nurse etc
  • Experience of managing a specific domiciliary or live in care agency
