Job Description

Live-in Care Assistant

Bluebird Care(Newport)

The role of a Live-in Carer is to provide support and encouragement to enable vulnerable people to lead independent lives within their own home in a safe, secure and comfortable way.

Every customer will have a personalised care plan which identifies the specific tasks which will need to be undertaken by their Live-in Carer. These may include shopping, cooking and preparing meals, and possibly assistance with feeding and administration of medication, housekeeping, laundry and of course personal care.

The Live-in Carer is not on duty 24 hours a day and is afforded time off during the day when their services are not required. This is normally in the afternoon but may vary according to the customer’s needs. Live-in Carers are NOT expected to be on-call throughout the night but are expected to be able to retire once the customer is settled for the night. This is to ensure that they are able to rest themselves in order to commence their duties the following morning.

As the Live-in Carer lives with the customer in their home, it is essential that they recognise the importance of respecting the customer’s privacy and right to make their own choices.

Live-in placements can vary from one week to several months and beyond, though most Live-in Carers typically work on a rotational basis: 2 weeks on/1 week off, 1 month on/2 weeks off, etc, and must be available for a minimum period of 1 full week at a time. Note: ALL Live-in Carers are afforded daily 2-hour breaks, covered by the local domiciliary Care Team where their customer cannot be left unattended.

Typical pay is from £500.00 per week.

We operate in Newport and Monmouthshire so candidates should ideally be based near to the area.

Previous Care experience is preferred but not essential as every successful applicant undergoes a thorough induction programme, as well as on-going training and supervision throughout the duration of their employment. Every prospective Live-in Carer will be required to have a clear DBS check. You would also need to be able to communicate clearly in English with someone who may be confused or hard of hearing. Ideally you should hold a full U.K. driving licence and own a car which can be used to transport customers as required.

Anyone who does not genuinely care about the welfare of vulnerable people will not be suitable for this role.
